The porch was already there, there was a flat roof with a cedar deck on top of the screen porch, and the window above was a sliding door. Of course, when the roof leaks horribly, it's not so much fun to have such a thing on your house. So, we took off the deck, replaced the door with a window, replaced the rotten wood trim with composite trim, pitched the roof and put metal on it.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQLYMx4Tv5SoWWCOhPFxyrPThJLnCPIhmuedHHDszODTCOZohYys1QmB1dO6URI4oCsKfmWX4T3wf7IIZZ6yhjvJWuUG1tpm-XMRXoNnENz2OH3EFhfWTZ2zv0I3hBre8MzmLX/s1600/scanlon.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQLYMx4Tv5SoWWCOhPFxyrPThJLnCPIhmuedHHDszODTCOZohYys1QmB1dO6URI4oCsKfmWX4T3wf7IIZZ6yhjvJWuUG1tpm-XMRXoNnENz2OH3EFhfWTZ2zv0I3hBre8MzmLX/s400/scanlon.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508341904120980370" border="0" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37916343.post-92172056643568394992010-05-22T22:01:00.000-07:002010-05-23T05:56:41.684-07:00This is a reception desk for a swim club. Above you see the before, below you can see the after. The client felt (and they were right) that the entryway didn't make a statement, didn't fit the house and wasn't very well built as well. Notice the new window head casings on the lower windows that provide more overall detail.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUI4HewFSgF26quae0ZaKGpPYhIdj7_SeFC5nUcSb93E3HZ3xNtB-iZ9YiizM63ayTOLuJ6yT8hONw8kF7uicRs7GYbTouvE8I5rAqzVdQ-1YJirxpjNRew8l5ycCBhvmZK-M5/s1600/6.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUI4HewFSgF26quae0ZaKGpPYhIdj7_SeFC5nUcSb93E3HZ3xNtB-iZ9YiizM63ayTOLuJ6yT8hONw8kF7uicRs7GYbTouvE8I5rAqzVdQ-1YJirxpjNRew8l5ycCBhvmZK-M5/s400/6.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5453860421473504562" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRTdnfM4iZFk0MV6PDWbHx-IpOmtvgoZyoq-MEBye-fdqD_YCWW0A0nO3xafhEntHeiVwKj65XdCGTM5fA65dYIKun4GDfn3w8tlrp0325TeAKBA6RWbCM7AQvB7Ery4uVDRsY/s1600/entrance.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRTdnfM4iZFk0MV6PDWbHx-IpOmtvgoZyoq-MEBye-fdqD_YCWW0A0nO3xafhEntHeiVwKj65XdCGTM5fA65dYIKun4GDfn3w8tlrp0325TeAKBA6RWbCM7AQvB7Ery4uVDRsY/s400/entrance.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5453860437047018834" border="0" /></a>Here you can see the differences more clearly. We changed the round pad to rectangle, two posts to four, round portico to rectangle, built the rubber roof properly, installed a different window and tricked it all with a LOT of composite trim. Now the entry is properly sized for the house, detailed enough to provide interest, the window fits the house, and best of all.... the roof doesn't leak.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWeCVM5XB0-UUrR6tr2CLZUUaOztM3g1D9RpgwriJTrQeXqpgVUaNe1WI_TnxqRE7X5fK5sHoVIwqvN34hjpNOFdpe5-ShrKVhCObhpeQ4cY6-AlIE56pV_7zFMAqsL6FPjpWr/s1600/5.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 225px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWeCVM5XB0-UUrR6tr2CLZUUaOztM3g1D9RpgwriJTrQeXqpgVUaNe1WI_TnxqRE7X5fK5sHoVIwqvN34hjpNOFdpe5-ShrKVhCObhpeQ4cY6-AlIE56pV_7zFMAqsL6FPjpWr/s400/5.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5453860056125993794" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinQg00mvWDw0XckfJ7ap_Il9HBdCmLfgJkfUjtd5M1ZjDygUQ3at3lDw7t5tsMBNJzEAn4DuXQFUiJq3MyTncTP8o526CrGjMbd2oQnH2CDz_uRkaCw8zrgOYWGeauENdPEt1K/s1600/entrance+%282%29.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinQg00mvWDw0XckfJ7ap_Il9HBdCmLfgJkfUjtd5M1ZjDygUQ3at3lDw7t5tsMBNJzEAn4DuXQFUiJq3MyTncTP8o526CrGjMbd2oQnH2CDz_uRkaCw8zrgOYWGeauENdPEt1K/s400/entrance+%282%29.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5453860428189435330" border="0" /></a>We also spiced up the side door as well. So we changed it to a two part crown with <a href="http://www.cor-a-vent.com/s400.cfm">Cor-AVent</a> soffit vent material. This special vent material allows me to install a detailed trim without the unsightly metal vent that is so common, while still venting the roof properly. Look carefully, it's the blackness between the white of the soffit trim and the main house color.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAC_4jQnRmPVVdxAciE-vzpBmar97K7D0UEphbWO3z0E7qsskuV2PybrvVooglo48sUXOqNy9cRdCZtiai_e3xMLODMYaEKdPcTcSQQmltGjemTFfruH5O6tgwdmy4UmEvjusi/s1600/1.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAC_4jQnRmPVVdxAciE-vzpBmar97K7D0UEphbWO3z0E7qsskuV2PybrvVooglo48sUXOqNy9cRdCZtiai_e3xMLODMYaEKdPcTcSQQmltGjemTFfruH5O6tgwdmy4UmEvjusi/s400/1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5453860032078084242" border="0" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37916343.post-72124221318693549192010-01-18T19:46:00.001-08:002010-01-18T20:07:25.993-08:00This is a locker unit for the entryway, every family member has one section. It was very fun... and very high. 160' to the top, I think. I actually had to work on that little ball thing under the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">weathervane</span>, which means that I have, at one time, been the tallest man in Gloucester, MA. The company running the project needed someone adept at carpenterial illusion (finish work), so they called me in. I put on my top hat and went to work.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_BIBGwRDinZ_fEFcXv2L-HJS-tU5w61MmjdTzwfBkmi_xBYol9PSDdMA63uNzFsq7P_Wgeg-c1_7t7AME66iMm-_yXzg64Oh0S1l278ZTSF1SOyhYSTwGIRekrGwyfuu0e5zWFA/s1600-h/town+hall+near.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_BIBGwRDinZ_fEFcXv2L-HJS-tU5w61MmjdTzwfBkmi_xBYol9PSDdMA63uNzFsq7P_Wgeg-c1_7t7AME66iMm-_yXzg64Oh0S1l278ZTSF1SOyhYSTwGIRekrGwyfuu0e5zWFA/s400/town+hall+near.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353324216063028706" border="0" /></a>If you look at the detail pictures, then at the finished pictures closely, you can pick out where each of the zoomed in sections are located. So this time I decided to take a video. It's not long, but you can get an idea of how much work goes into such a small space. I know it doesn't look like it, but the entire tub front is held on with magnets and is removable for access to the whirlpool motor. The tile was fairly intricate, but turned out very nice. At least I think so. </p></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37916343.post-82243629181560711292009-01-28T04:26:00.000-08:002009-01-28T04:32:18.671-08:00<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_9LG9L-DiZkMqNGlRlFoCKylOqMvfHkqAtL26fg9ddsGlrYiwgbwl84ACgQNZ2NJ3PBw9m3_5fN7dHsmbuMybsBt9drArsqmza62PewEamLMzRQftCeVMLSK96gJXQxvoOuqt/s1600-h/shed.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_9LG9L-DiZkMqNGlRlFoCKylOqMvfHkqAtL26fg9ddsGlrYiwgbwl84ACgQNZ2NJ3PBw9m3_5fN7dHsmbuMybsBt9drArsqmza62PewEamLMzRQftCeVMLSK96gJXQxvoOuqt/s400/shed.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296320606307716338" border="0" /></a>In the spirit of showing that I have no limits to what I will do for money (in a carpenterial way, I mean...) here is a picture of a shed that I built. It is 10'x12'. I site-built trusses to make the gambrelle roof, so it's very open on the inside. Here is a set of stairs that I re-worked a few weeks ago. I would like to use it to show you step by step, how I install the skirts and risers. This is for you potential clients who want to know more about the process you might pay me to somplete for you.<br /><br />The below picture is the before. Typically, the stairs are carpeted, or in this case, just rough. This one is a basement finish, and in any basement finish, one of the challenges is to make it not look like a basement finish, but part of the house. This one was made more difficult by the guy that finished the basement, because he put the walls too close to the stair stringers. You'll see what I mean later...<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTXj5U3pFVTcYT6Bxtu97tjPC8P8L_G1G-jIZ4Rs95Auqte58Ah-uvRMRYvOff4SaWN36DTty04bEtsX7qKSdfrSa9CLwOxVtKEoMqFy2Y4N96W2DVHFVgwmapcc2e8Tyb7JnY/s1600-h/stair9.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTXj5U3pFVTcYT6Bxtu97tjPC8P8L_G1G-jIZ4Rs95Auqte58Ah-uvRMRYvOff4SaWN36DTty04bEtsX7qKSdfrSa9CLwOxVtKEoMqFy2Y4N96W2DVHFVgwmapcc2e8Tyb7JnY/s400/stair9.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296145106963139650" border="0" /></a><br />Here you can see how the other guy, who I will refer to as SBG (Stinky Basement Guy), really made my job harder. Normally, there is space between the stringer (the notched thing that holds the treads) and the wall. Then, all you have to do is cut the top and bottom to length and the right angles and the skirt(the white trim board on the left wall) will slide right in. Notice the sheet rock under the stairs, which is why I couldn't just replace the stringers. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiDmLF805XRQ6MpuBFDBOptXqihe8Fcur2QlnABeaNhDBK71tjnyYixPUtZfTVNPUAM4j4kilE6D_jEmoiHTQe7oNbxmczQnLrXXzf2JA4knC6golFHj8g38Rf05l7iDaW8Z1t/s1600-h/stair8.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 225px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiDmLF805XRQ6MpuBFDBOptXqihe8Fcur2QlnABeaNhDBK71tjnyYixPUtZfTVNPUAM4j4kilE6D_jEmoiHTQe7oNbxmczQnLrXXzf2JA4knC6golFHj8g38Rf05l7iDaW8Z1t/s400/stair8.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296145104039265954" border="0" /></a><br />As you can see, though, I didn't have that option, so I had to notch the skirt all the way down. SBG also added 3" of floor at the bottom, thus making a major difference in riser height. (There can only be 1/4" of difference, and I had to work with 3". So I had to sister on new stringers to the old ones, which is harder and slower than you might think. The below picture is after the skirt and new stringer was put in place.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs2vtWMssl3AGWJWTn-tH266Wk8gdEKNl8FfvutODGR2m4J2ucr6HkUzBQdZNSfeZW_kfEB42v4opVjLyGKnPiUz5zshPIm_JYBwOUBcydSzwUNc573LuWXlMfOUclQ2JJqwuN/s1600-h/stair7.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs2vtWMssl3AGWJWTn-tH266Wk8gdEKNl8FfvutODGR2m4J2ucr6HkUzBQdZNSfeZW_kfEB42v4opVjLyGKnPiUz5zshPIm_JYBwOUBcydSzwUNc573LuWXlMfOUclQ2JJqwuN/s400/stair7.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296145105686748754" border="0" /></a>Below, you can see all the new stringers installed, which have to line up with one another, both top and front. You can also see the outside skirt, which has to be perfectly cut on a 46 degree angle and placed back in just the right spot so the risers will all meet perfectly.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUSHU6WY0Fn3nKLucVOpOS5uDXTb9KuJB7sZDrCrgn3d4Pt4Hzqb9UDfKoQhBf0OsuGAlXPYojKUXKjMZISMtZULu7ecR2cY2HAZoBbPp0KwYFS3Yp1ZQqNmIvBOiCSXkCVqmb/s1600-h/stair6.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 225px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUSHU6WY0Fn3nKLucVOpOS5uDXTb9KuJB7sZDrCrgn3d4Pt4Hzqb9UDfKoQhBf0OsuGAlXPYojKUXKjMZISMtZULu7ecR2cY2HAZoBbPp0KwYFS3Yp1ZQqNmIvBOiCSXkCVqmb/s400/stair6.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296145100101974690" border="0" /></a>Below, you can see the whole thing from the side, outside skirt already installed.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjb7di5eknwyTsni_mbOjMcD7-ilpnMVzsmszo5CmpaNZ6yXlGAxwyAXKi2f0IYV-Wov560lEpQPiFxM95xjHAWmQ3eBwp1gH6aw2Q_06nUFHOskR8prAphiaDpd8bedZVIGTX/s1600-h/stair5.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjb7di5eknwyTsni_mbOjMcD7-ilpnMVzsmszo5CmpaNZ6yXlGAxwyAXKi2f0IYV-Wov560lEpQPiFxM95xjHAWmQ3eBwp1gH6aw2Q_06nUFHOskR8prAphiaDpd8bedZVIGTX/s400/stair5.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296145086469995202" border="0" /></a>The next step is to rabbet the risers to accept the treads. This done on a table saw, and I set it up so that the cut is slightly angled to produce no gap after installation. In the below picture, the rabbet is the notch cut in the bottom of the horizontal board. The tread slides under the notch, and then is nailed from the back. This locks them together and ensures that the tread will never pop up.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdVCm4u0hyphenhyphenyVOEplANRUMxQ5DE30tTqXsAaF-1146cKmlD_GWyojkS7JHhObeNrMtlxWfxCH9CkN9lnInRwj_WDSTUFSDnUPtEigO23WbFACfyPbEXzSC-uZVk1lv1x81jsu5B/s1600-h/stair4.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdVCm4u0hyphenhyphenyVOEplANRUMxQ5DE30tTqXsAaF-1146cKmlD_GWyojkS7JHhObeNrMtlxWfxCH9CkN9lnInRwj_WDSTUFSDnUPtEigO23WbFACfyPbEXzSC-uZVk1lv1x81jsu5B/s400/stair4.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296142640362903618" border="0" /></a>After dry fitting the tread, I use polyurethane construction adhesive. (PL brand is the best I've seen) All wood to wood contact must be glued. I can't stress this enough. It is the only way to ensure a squeak free staircase.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd_xZwjTNZIElxDSVowEQFSjPOA6uwBa7VmWWisHIt7v4G2-qoF4oCUdPD2fJtEFVDvZ-jpIV7d27C9deu0XcAkIlpmq3tywKWwB398i3uVFQLIWcKiv5af-PfYvIYdIbzqc4k/s1600-h/stair3.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd_xZwjTNZIElxDSVowEQFSjPOA6uwBa7VmWWisHIt7v4G2-qoF4oCUdPD2fJtEFVDvZ-jpIV7d27C9deu0XcAkIlpmq3tywKWwB398i3uVFQLIWcKiv5af-PfYvIYdIbzqc4k/s400/stair3.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296142640271021570" border="0" /></a>After gluing, I use my hands and a rubber mallet to gently tap the tread into place. You want to make sure that all gaps are taken out so the fit is tight and the heights remain the same. Below you see the tread installed. I use finish nails the secure the tread.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg3klqpwABlOcWKknzzBmnVtmB-nwn9DWKWhIipl4lJwuJtsZXSia-qp9z-KY9qIf8E_z42oJul2H4c3DxiT5aP-TGq89_klE6vCtofyRVUjIhz1FghdyPrI4kSkMbi4x9RoCP/s1600-h/stair2.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg3klqpwABlOcWKknzzBmnVtmB-nwn9DWKWhIipl4lJwuJtsZXSia-qp9z-KY9qIf8E_z42oJul2H4c3DxiT5aP-TGq89_klE6vCtofyRVUjIhz1FghdyPrI4kSkMbi4x9RoCP/s400/stair2.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296142629207192146" border="0" /></a>I use my waste pieces to cut stubby little shims, then I drive them home behind the riser and under the tread. This pushes the riser out and the tread up, ensuring a gapless fit. Then I use a brad gun the nail the back of the riser into the tread.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdSQ2BGe77JsVQsap6wx-Kb2sfn0PIam325YSYYvKhtA25AuNOSgOo8sT818Tpg-2ius5w6bXri5oFMDf02-mFaAhtIMbPJGB2cvtBsAQtcb8U9DitOanfJf9iI-_-CJn_9nhC/s1600-h/stair1.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdSQ2BGe77JsVQsap6wx-Kb2sfn0PIam325YSYYvKhtA25AuNOSgOo8sT818Tpg-2ius5w6bXri5oFMDf02-mFaAhtIMbPJGB2cvtBsAQtcb8U9DitOanfJf9iI-_-CJn_9nhC/s400/stair1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296142624588511346" border="0" /></a>Below you can see the skirts, risers and treads installed on this staircase. It means that it's not just one big room, but that it has lots of turns, doorways, etc. This one has ten doors, two different rooms, four hall sections and two closets. AND it's all done in a pattern. The pictures were taken before I gave it the final buff, so you may notice some haze.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKoo26BHBVaVINMbTGIvklf-idbqKRZtDAvPCZjlEVrkyfGRDclg_XT4gxhxwX2DC4PNR6_0uIa6Zj-fl72Tkee4-hxiPAuRaxUNrYeI-2BFz4Y3ralMiSYtymC8RvcmMvPf2g/s1600-h/IMG_7762.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKoo26BHBVaVINMbTGIvklf-idbqKRZtDAvPCZjlEVrkyfGRDclg_XT4gxhxwX2DC4PNR6_0uIa6Zj-fl72Tkee4-hxiPAuRaxUNrYeI-2BFz4Y3ralMiSYtymC8RvcmMvPf2g/s400/IMG_7762.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257173790020770818" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi2tzhFiMvSGA78dowsuOrpS6_mTHiQ-JY8QQaOMCQ42uXk0-Sqpm7_QmpKiaz4gH0NSAZp0AlTVojtPjrAYCYkRmUwKGDqzNkXHP1CZEQ_tzfw22YCKp3xJAuSGXRSgjVdkVx/s1600-h/IMG_7761.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi2tzhFiMvSGA78dowsuOrpS6_mTHiQ-JY8QQaOMCQ42uXk0-Sqpm7_QmpKiaz4gH0NSAZp0AlTVojtPjrAYCYkRmUwKGDqzNkXHP1CZEQ_tzfw22YCKp3xJAuSGXRSgjVdkVx/s400/IMG_7761.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257173794392802994" border="0" /></a>Here's the pattern. It is harder to install, and requires extra steps during installation. When you install normal grout, you squish it into the joints with a rubber grout float, then use a stiff sponge to spread it around and form the joints. This step also cleans off extra grout, leaving a haze. After it dries, you buff the now dry grout off the tops of the tiles.<br /><br />Well,<span style="text-decoration: underline;"> </span><a href="http://www.tecspecialty.com/assets/files/english/Grout_XT%20Card%20%28US%29_R507.pdf"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">TEC</span> <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">XT</span></a> grout always leaves the same haze, but in my experience, it doesn't buff off. So I come back again the next day, and mix one cup of vinegar to five gallons of water, and sponge it again. The acid in the vinegar breaks down the grout on the tile, making it come off easily. Then I have to sponge it again with clean water to get the vinegar off, because it will continue doing it's job if I leave it on. Extra step, but worth it for Antique White to stay Antique White, and you never have to seal it.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTSHcKFI7IQkvsVCF8AhtoKKw37322NKDokeANdBDSGfwQu6STSM2fYtMBg6kxUHtgeBtezQsslKjO-VO0wIOeeWy0wJrj-uGImwPUT-SA1_sdN43-odHJbXS2Up70AU249xNg/s1600-h/IMG_7767.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTSHcKFI7IQkvsVCF8AhtoKKw37322NKDokeANdBDSGfwQu6STSM2fYtMBg6kxUHtgeBtezQsslKjO-VO0wIOeeWy0wJrj-uGImwPUT-SA1_sdN43-odHJbXS2Up70AU249xNg/s400/IMG_7767.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257173799225361330" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoOkwSsjzOKVTXdLcU0RzdAsmkW8rmzTQyy17qnePDES52pqs-86Lpq44NdIbbyzlsEPyFZXoTaC6F87P4567AIoL5qarWcU0-H5OBh2mopujPZI-GIP43mW4f_kISXp2ZnTE2/s1600-h/IMG_7766.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoOkwSsjzOKVTXdLcU0RzdAsmkW8rmzTQyy17qnePDES52pqs-86Lpq44NdIbbyzlsEPyFZXoTaC6F87P4567AIoL5qarWcU0-H5OBh2mopujPZI-GIP43mW4f_kISXp2ZnTE2/s400/IMG_7766.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257172967213989858" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcv7x3wJZRBz99byXTAx2oUI8qlMG2qv013MQWXv8MVnF-jzdPRXw5NcI36m56-VbKmh8mVEzt5QyBj1ukSqN5DOnJqtnZxGa1s7lm7MoOTPdft-4oOQYYFRILYeZIndU3OBCl/s1600-h/IMG_7765.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcv7x3wJZRBz99byXTAx2oUI8qlMG2qv013MQWXv8MVnF-jzdPRXw5NcI36m56-VbKmh8mVEzt5QyBj1ukSqN5DOnJqtnZxGa1s7lm7MoOTPdft-4oOQYYFRILYeZIndU3OBCl/s400/IMG_7765.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257172971560606178" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim4Xw6V4eqjtLAeP6c1v5XzQOTDwUh9vuWgTcr75lnGCHXcSeFtGLwbQIST00LoQc8Q2YKyLMJ88ifhcEHzXDp_pMZ4Yk8XNIY1Cx9VTUdImQ6aH03-0HO1Vb2tiTb3mx1j7l0/s1600-h/IMG_7764.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim4Xw6V4eqjtLAeP6c1v5XzQOTDwUh9vuWgTcr75lnGCHXcSeFtGLwbQIST00LoQc8Q2YKyLMJ88ifhcEHzXDp_pMZ4Yk8XNIY1Cx9VTUdImQ6aH03-0HO1Vb2tiTb3mx1j7l0/s400/IMG_7764.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257172972200285154" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVnqU0ZpuccrDdydGOjSFpheoDHBuxxZZQgASKpUFfmJz8URzuJHpdKf9oINiwtPDXwts8-OYRULkUIbPPf7TNseRbCVBD8gSVecCRZHuKHuxBBbU021Qrd-1FjuevfKx50Rmd/s1600-h/IMG_7763.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVnqU0ZpuccrDdydGOjSFpheoDHBuxxZZQgASKpUFfmJz8URzuJHpdKf9oINiwtPDXwts8-OYRULkUIbPPf7TNseRbCVBD8gSVecCRZHuKHuxBBbU021Qrd-1FjuevfKx50Rmd/s400/IMG_7763.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257172975793586706" border="0" /></a>These pictures represent two people, six days worth of labor:<br /><br />Day 1, demo old floor, which includes three linoleum layers, two plywood layers, and we found out the subfloor is only 7/16" thick. He custom built the house for a client, and they "just had" to have a portico on the front. It was to be "the pearl necklace" of the house. We were given a black and white photocopy of a completely different house with something similar on it, and told, "do this". So we did. It has a flat roof, and all material exposed to weather is made of composite materials. Nobody did, but if you ask me, a cape cod house with a federal style front porch looks downright wierd. But I don't design them, I just build them. I do think that it looks good, though, just not with this house. (The portico on the front is what I am talking about.)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
